Meet our Trustees

“He taonga te hauora – Wellbeing is a treasure”

Tony Paterson

Chair, Principal Donor, Markit Law

I’ve always had a deep, lifelong love for the Southern Lakes region – its wonderful people and stunning natural beauty. It began with fun childhood holidays at Frankton Beach and continued as my family made our home and built our lives here. Community has been at the centre of everything for me, and I am genuinely passionate about giving back to our people and protecting our environment. One way I do this is by serving as a trustee for two local wildlife trusts and chairing the Southern Lakes Health Trust. From my interactions with Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora and hearing stories from my friends and whānau, it became clear that we needed real change – a new way to improve healthcare here in the Southern Lakes. Thanks to the Strategic Health Report, we’ve already made great progress. I’m proud to have supported that report and excited to continue backing the Health Project moving forward.

Tamah Alley

Central Otago District Council Mayor

I became a Southern Lakes Health Trustee because I believe living in a beautiful, thriving area like Central Otago shouldn’t mean you have to accept a lower quality of healthcare. After 12 years in rural policing and working in some of the poorest areas in Auckland, I understand the impact on the next generation of inadequate health services. I have also seen first-hand the reality that just because you need a helicopter – doesn’t mean one can come. This cannot be the best option for our growing population. As a mum of three, and with ageing parents, I want to make sure equitable access to health services in our area keeps families together, closer to home.

Pam Shaw

Registered Nurse at Queenstown Lakes District Hospital

Queenstown has been home for 20 years; I originally came from Christchurch, and my love for skiing and winter brought me here. Outside of work, I strongly commit to volunteering in the area. Happiness House, Canine Friends and Adaptive Skiing are my main service areas in the community. I became a Southern Lakes Health Trustee because I do not feel the community is being served with the current health services. And there has been no word of any improvement in the future despite the population increasing beyond expectations. I am grateful for those who have stepped up to find solutions and am excited to help where I can.
